Adeleke Raises Alarm over APC’s Plot to Seize Power via Emergency Rule in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised fresh concerns over what he described as a renewed attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to take control of the state through the declaration of emergency rule.

The governor said recent calls for emergency rule were not genuine but part of a political strategy to destabilise his administration and create room for an unconstitutional takeover of power.

Adeleke made this known while reacting to appeals by some civil society groups urging the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Osun over rising political tension.

He dismissed the groups as “faceless” and accused them of acting on the instructions of former governor Gboyega Oyetola and the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

According to the governor, the APC is the main source of the current unrest in the state.

He alleged that the opposition party disrupted local government administration, interfered with council finances, and deployed security operatives without lawful approval.

Adeleke claimed that the actions of the former governor and his allies had made them unpopular among residents of the state, especially at the grassroots level.

“The APC seized local government funds, mismanaged the same, and forcefully occupied the councils, all in a bid to provoke violence and conflict. This is a deliberate strategy to create chaos and blame it on the Adeleke-led administration,” the governor said.

He insisted that his government had remained committed to peace despite what he described as persistent provocation from APC-backed officials.

The governor stated that the call for emergency rule only surfaced after efforts to destabilise the state failed.

“Osun APC has failed in its evil bid to destabilise the state, hence their resort to an open call for emergency declaration, for which there is no basis or justification,” he added.

Adeleke rejected claims that his administration was responsible for the crisis rocking the local government system.

He maintained that the situation was triggered by what he called the illegal occupation of council secretariats by APC-aligned chairmen whose tenures had expired.

He further accused the opposition party of diverting council funds in violation of financial rules.

The governor said his administration stepped in to pay salaries of affected local government workers who were allegedly abandoned by the previous leadership.

Adeleke noted that his approach to the crisis had received praise from different quarters and that Osun had moved past the era of violent political struggle.

“No individual or group will be allowed to further disturb the peace of Osun State. Anybody found creating public mayhem will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

He disclosed that he had instructed the Commissioner of Police in the state to closely monitor political activities and stop any move capable of throwing the state into chaos.

He also urged the Inspector-General of Police to take interest in the matter to prevent further escalation.

The governor appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by calling former governor Oyetola to order.

He warned that the actions of the former governor, now a serving minister, could negatively affect the image of the Federal Government.

“Those seeking power should face the electorate. Political power is secured through the people; no backdoor access will work,” Adeleke said.
