
Nigerias table tennis icon, Quadri Aruna, has powered into the quarter-finals of the ITTF Africa Cup Championship in Benghazi, Libya, following a dominant 40 victory over Libyas Alajaebi Habeb in the mens singles round of 16 on Sunday, February 8. Aruna, Nigerias top-ranked player, controlled the match from start to finish, winning in straight games 113, 114, 113 and 111 to underline his class and experience at the continental showpiece.The convincing win keeps the former ITTF world top-10 player firmly in contention for the title as the tournament moves into its decisive stage. Elsewhere in the mens singles round of 16, Algerias Stephanie Ouaiche defeated Nigerias Olajide Omotayo 40. Ouaiche dictated the pace of the encounter, sealing victory with game scores of 116, 112, 114 and 118, despite Omotayo showing resilience, particularly in the fourth game. In other results, Egypts Omar Assar eased past Moroccos Banchat Marius 40 (116, 112, 116, 116), while Tunisias Wassim Essid overcame Benins Salifou Abdel-Kader 42 to also book a place in the quarter-finals.The ITTF Africa Cup Championship continues in Benghazi with quarter-final matches scheduled to follow.
