VP Shettima Accused of Ignoring Woro Community During His Kwara Visit

Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently facing backlash following allegations that he ignored the Woro community during his recent sympathy visit to Kwara State.

The accusations were brought to light by a former lawmaker who spoke during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Monday morning.

According to the former legislator, the Vice President’s visit to the state did not extend to the actual site of the tragedy in Kaiama Local Government Area, where a violent attack recently claimed numerous lives.

The critic noted that while Shettima was in the state to offer condolences, he remained within the state capital, Ilorin, rather than traveling to the affected rural community to meet with survivors and see the extent of the damage firsthand.

This move has been described by some local stakeholders as a missed opportunity to provide direct comfort to a grieving population that feels neglected by the central government.

“The Vice President was in the state, yet he could not find his way to the community where this carnage actually happened,” the former lawmaker stated during the live broadcast.

The report suggested that instead of a field assessment, the Vice President held meetings with state officials and traditional rulers at the Government House.

This development follows reports that over 170 people were killed in Woro by suspected terrorists who invaded the community last Tuesday.

While the state government had cited the poor condition of the roads as a reason for the Vice President’s inability to reach the area by land, critics argue that a helicopter should have been utilized to ensure the federal delegation reached the victims.

In a related development, Politics Nigeria reported that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had earlier visited the Woro community to assess the situation.
