Tragedy struck the Funbi Fagun area of Ondo West Local Government area when a 27-year-old woman, Faith Olusesan, was macheted to d3ath in her sisters house. It was gathered that unspecified number of unknown assailants, wielding machetes and other dangerous weapons, stormed the residence of a serving police officer, DSP Helen Adetowubo, on Friday, February 6, 2026 and attacked the deceased. The incident happened shortly after the victim returned from the market, where she had been sent to buy foodstuffs for the family. According to Ondo State Govt owned publication, Hope Newspaper, the assailants allegedly trespassed the compound by scaling an unmounted side of the barbed-wire fence, attacked Faith and macheted her repeatedly on different parts of her body, leading to her d3ath. The publication further learnt that Mrs. Adetowubo disclosed that her nephews friend, whose name could not be ascertained, had sent her a text message about an hour before the incident, warning that Faiths life was in danger. On getting to the house, the family reportedly discovered her lifeless body lying on the floor. She added that before the unfortunate incident, the victim had been preparing to travel out of the country in search of greener pastures (japa) in the coming weeks to an undisclosed destination. According to her, investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, Funbi Fagun Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Adenibuyan Olanrewaju, indicated that the suspected assailants had been inside the house, waiting for the victims return. It was also discovered that one of the windows leading to the parlour had been burgled, allegedly in search of the victim or valuable items in the house. Confirming the incident, the Police at the Funbi Fagun Division stated that the division was notified around 2:00 p.m. and immediately dispatched a team of detectives to the scene. The scene was visited by detectives, the police said, adding that the lifeless body was evacuated by Funbi Fagun Division operatives and deposited at the General Hospital, Ondo, while investigations are ongoing to unravel those behind the criminal act. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. It was further gathered that a suspect was rescued from angry friends and relatives by Amotekun operatives and subsequently handed over to the police. The division also confirmed that the case has been transferred to Akure for further investigation.
