NNPP Demands DSS Probe of Kwankwaso Over Alleged US Terror Listing

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has urged security agencies to investigate claims that former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was listed by authorities in the United States over alleged links to terrorism financing.

The party said the matter touches on national security and must be treated with urgency.

It called on the Department of State Services and other relevant agencies to begin a full probe without political interference.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the NNPP warned that the issue should not be handled lightly.

“No single individual is greater than the country, especially when issues of national security are involved,” the statement read.

The party said its past relationship with Kwankwaso exposed what it described as troubling behaviour during the period he worked with the NNPP.

“Our dealings with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the last three years clearly revealed that he is not a peaceful man, as he brought confusion into a political party that had existed peacefully for 22 years before he joined,” Oginni said.

According to the party, Kwankwaso’s presence in the NNPP led to internal disputes and serious divisions. It alleged that the crisis extended to the party’s founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, who gave him the platform to contest the 2023 presidential election.

“It is very saddening that Senator Kwankwaso allegedly terrorised everyone he met in the NNPP, including the founder of our party who gave him the platform to contest in 2023 without payment of a dime,” the statement added.

The NNPP also referred to rulings from election tribunals in Kano State after the 2023 general elections. It claimed that some judicial remarks raised questions about the activities of the Kwankwasiyya political movement.

The party disclosed that it ended its Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiyya group shortly after the elections. It also said Kwankwaso was expelled over alleged anti-party actions and corruption-related issues.

NNPP further appealed to the United States authorities and the Federal Government of Nigeria not to link the party with any alleged terrorism-related activities involving Kwankwaso. It stressed that such allegations should be treated as personal matters.

While reacting to reports credited to the United States Congress, the party said the development validated its long-standing concerns about the former presidential candidate.

“We hereby call for the immediate arrest and investigation of everyone linked with terrorism and banditry in Nigeria. Enough of grandstanding. Nobody should play politics with blood-sucking groups terrorising innocent Nigerians,” Oginni stated.

The party also called on the administration of Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to address insecurity across the country.

“The Federal Government should take the bull by the horns by ensuring that all private individuals and groups linked with terrorism are dealt with without fear or favour. The Tinubu administration should walk the talk for the protection and safety of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
