BREAKING: El-Rufai Honours EFCC Invitation Amid Alleged Corruption Probe
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, arrived at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja on Monday in connection with allegations levelled against him.
The former governor’s arrival reportedly caused tension at the agency’s entrance, as security personnel restricted access for members of his entourage.
The incident led to a brief commotion at the EFCC gate, with supporters of El-Rufai gathering near the junction leading to the commission.
In a video circulating online and obtained by Politics Nigeria, one of his supporters accused the EFCC of dispersing their group with teargas while allegedly allowing anti-El-Rufai protesters to assemble nearby.
The protesters were seen calling on the EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation into corruption claims linked to El-Rufai’s tenure as governor, as well as his recent allegation that the phone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, had been tapped.
The EFCC, alongside the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is investigating corruption allegations associated with El-Rufai’s administration in Kaduna State.
El-Rufai has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the probes as politically motivated persecution.
