Insecurity: Weapons recovered as troops kill 2 terrorists in Ondo
Two suspected armed terrorists have been killed by troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auga in Ondo State.
The suspects were said to have been killed during a tactical operation conducted by the troops along the road Akunu–Auga on February 14.
In a statement issued on Monday, Major Irabor Njoka, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 32 Artillery Brigade said the troops acted on credible intelligence on the movement of the terrorists.
According to Njoka, the troops engaged with the suspected terrorists in a gun fight and overpowered them.
He added that while two of the suspects were killed, others fled with suspected gunshot wounds during the operation carried out in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency and Local Vigilantes.
“Items recovered from the encounter with the criminals include; one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets, a jackknife, torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms and the sum of ₦39,000 among other personal effects.
“The success of the operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s unwavering resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and movement, as well as to protect lives and property across Ondo State,” Njoka said.
He added that the 32 Artillery Brigade will continue to sustain an aggressive onslaught against terrorists constituting a nuisance across the nation.
He noted that the Military will also continue to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders to ensure a secure environment for residents.
Njoka, further urged the general public to continue to work towards providing credible and timely intelligence to security agencies to strengthen the civil-military partnership in the ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
