“No More Groundnut Politics” – Wike Declares After APC Victory at FCT Polls

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared an end to what he described as deceptive campaign tactics following the outcome of the FCT Area Council elections.

Wike spoke on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The minister said the election results have revealed the true political standing of parties in the nation’s capital.

He noted that residents of the FCT made their choice based on performance and not on publicity stunts.

According to him, the polls showed clearly which party now enjoys the confidence of voters and which one plays the role of opposition.

Results from the election indicated that the All Progressives Congress won five Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured only one.

Reacting to the outcome, Wike said:
“This election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers for the purpose of a campaign just to deceive Nigerians.

“The residents of FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats, who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government.”

He added that voters in the Federal Capital Territory have become more politically aware and are no longer swayed by symbolic gestures or staged appearances.

Wike also praised the conduct of the election, saying it reflected the growing maturity of Nigeria’s democratic process and the willingness of citizens to demand accountability from political leaders.

Moreover, the minister stressed that the ruling party’s performance in the FCT was a sign that government policies and development projects were being noticed by residents.
