Woman arrested after pretending to be a man and living with lover

An 18-year-old woman from Epworth, Zimbabwe has appeared in court accused of posing as a man and allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl in what prosecutors described as a prolonged deception.Shamiso Melinda Sigara, of the Overspill area in Epworth, was brought before Harare Magistrates Court over the weekend, where she faces a charge of aggravated indecent assault. The case was heard before Magistrate Jessie Kufa.According to court documents, the alleged deception began in November last year when Sigara reportedly approached the teenager while presenting herself as a male suitor. Prosecutors allege that the minor believed she was entering a romantic relationship with a man.The state claims the relationship continued for several months, during which the complainant remained unaware of Sigaras biological identity.In February, Sigara allegedly arranged for the teenager to leave her family home and move into her residence in Overspill, under the impression that they would live together as husband and wife.Prosecutors further allege that while the two were asleep, Sigara assaulted the complainant by inserting an unidentified object into her private parts on two occasions while pretending to have male genitalia. Following the incident, the teenager reportedly became suspicious and disclosed her concerns to her mother, who then reported the matter to police.Sigara was subsequently arrested. She was not asked to enter a plea during her initial court appearance and was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.
