Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has shut down rumours linking him with a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, citing the intense football culture in Istanbul as a major reason.
The Napoli forward, who had a stellar loan stint with Super Lig champions Galatasaray last season, scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances, addressed speculation surrounding a possible switch to city rivals Fenerbahçe.
In a quote published by habersarikirmizi, Osimhen said the passionate fanbase in Türkiye exceeds what he experienced in Napoli and would be too overwhelming if he were to move between rival Istanbul clubs.
“I was intimidated by the fanaticism in Napoli. The fanaticism in Türkiye is greater than Napoli,” Osimhen said.
“If I were to move from one club to another in Istanbul, I would be worn out. I am not keen on that.”
The 26-year-old’s comments effectively end speculation of a sensational transfer to Fenerbahçe and raise questions over whether he will return to Galatasaray or opt for a new challenge elsewhere.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus, and other top European clubs are reportedly interested in his signature, but Osimhen remains in no rush to make a decision.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s former Napoli teammate, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, now shining at Paris Saint-Germain, offered his verdict in the never-ending debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Speaking in a casual chat with streamer Jasontheween, the Georgian star acknowledged his admiration for Ronaldo but admitted Messi operates on another level.
“Cristiano Ronaldo or Leo Messi? For me, you know I love Ronaldo so much, but of course, Messi is from another planet,” Kvaratskhelia said.
Kvaratskhelia, who helped PSG secure both the UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 titles last season, joins a growing list of elite players who view the Argentine legend as the ultimate icon of world football.
