The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has denied reports in some quarters that she plans to unlawfully extend the tenure of the Permanent Secretary representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Gabriel Tanimu Aduda.
The denial, which was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Eno Olotu, clarified that the tenure and retirement of a Permanent Secretary are subject to provisions of Public Service Rules and is subject to the approval of the appropriate authorities.
Olotu added that Walson-Jack is fully committed to upholding merit-based leadership and accountability in public administration and therefore urged members of the public to disregard the rumours.
It added that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation remains committed to due process, transparency, and the rule of law.
The full statement reads, “The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has noted some online media reports alleging a purported plan by the Ministers of Defence and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to unlawfully extend the tenure of Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, the Permanent Secretary representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The OHCSF categorically denies any such plan to extend the tenure of Mr. Aduda or any other Permanent Secretary.
“In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Eno Olotu, it was emphasized that any decision regarding the retirement or tenure of a Permanent Secretary is made strictly in accordance with the Public Service Rules and is subject to the approval of the appropriate authorities. The statement reaffirmed the Office’s unwavering commitment to due process, transparency, and the rule of law in the management of public service careers.
“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, reiterated her dedication to upholding merit-based leadership and accountability in public administration. She emphasized that transparency and integrity remain the foundation of her leadership, ensuring continued public trust in the Civil Service.
“The public is therefore advised to disregard this and similar reports and refrain from spreading misinformation that may cause unnecessary tension or undermine confidence in the Civil Service.”
