Edo Sports Commission Dissolves Bendel Insurance FC Board, Appoints APC Chairman

The Edo State Sports Commission has dissolved the Board of Bendel Insurance Football Club with immediate effect as part of efforts to reposition the club ahead of the 2025-2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele said this, through a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko on Tuesday, June 25.

In the sweeping changes, Emperor Jarret Tenebe has been appointed as the new Chairman of Bendel Insurance FC.

He takes over from Philip Shaibu, who was recently named the Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Hon. Enabulele explained that the move aligns with Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s broader vision of revitalizing Edo’s sporting landscape.

“This decision is in line with the broader objective to revamp Edo’s sports infrastructure in accordance with His Excellency, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s vision,” Enabulele stated.

“Bendel Insurance finished last season in fifth place, and with Emperor Tenebe’s wealth of experience in football management, we are confident he will take the club to greater heights.”

He also emphasized the state government’s commitment to using sports as a vehicle for youth empowerment and development.

Tenebe, who also serves as the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed gratitude for the opportunity and vowed to build on the club’s recent achievements.

“I am well-versed in football administration and always strive for excellence. I thank the Chairman of the Sports Commission and the Board for this opportunity. We will hit the ground running and work to consolidate on Bendel Insurance’s recent successes,” he said.
