The 2023 deputy governorship candidate for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Abia State, Chima Anyaso, has switched allegiance to the Labour Party (LP).
In a similar move, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing the Bende North constituency, Nnamdi Ibekwe, along with his supporters, and Okey Ezeala from the All Progressives Congress (APC), have also joined the LP.
Naija News reports that the new members were officially welcomed into the LP during the inauguration of the Bende local government area chapter of the Abia Arise Movement, which is the political structure of the governor, held last Friday at Uzuakoli.
During the event, Governor Alex Otti articulated that the movement transcends a mere political platform, characterising it as a non-partisan initiative aimed at grassroots mobilisation and the development of leadership.
He emphasised that his administration has fostered opportunities for residents to pursue personal growth and self-actualisation through substantial investments in infrastructure, social services, and other vital sectors.
“Our administration has shown that governance is about service, responding to public concerns and deploying public funds to uplift the people.
“We are deliberately investing in infrastructure that closes the gap between rural and urban communities and eliminates the push factors for rural-urban migration.
“The residents are happy not just because of handouts, but because they believe the government now consistently makes the right decisions,” Otti said.
Earlier, Anyaso commended the governor for “his purposeful and people-oriented leadership”, which he said had rekindled hope among the residents.
Declaring total support for Otti’s rebuilding agenda, he announced his formal resignation from the YPP and pledged allegiance to the governor and the movement.
