According to Punch, on September 4, 2025, a desperate cry for help emerged on social media when a Nigerian domestic worker in Libya, Alimat Idowu, revealed that her two-year-old daughter had been trafficked to Italy by a neighbour she once trusted.

Alimat, who works as a home help in Tripoli, shared her ordeal online, tagging Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Interpol, and this newspaper. “My two-year-old baby girl has been kidnapped by a neighbour. I left her with the neighbour.
