The ECS, which is run by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), is intended to pay employees for fatalities, disabilities, or injuries sustained on the job.
Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, confirmed her strong support for the scheme’s incorporation into the civil service welfare system during a high-level meeting in Abuja. She emphasized the importance of establishing ECS as a component of a larger initiative to improve government employees’ well-being. In addition to this, Walson-Jack declared that wage arrears payments to federal employees would begin, indicating a renewed government commitment to settling unpaid debts and boosting staff morale.
“According to the Employees’ Compensation Act, the Employees’ Compensation Scheme has been waiting for a significant push to be fully incorporated into our service-wide welfare offerings,” she said. Oluwaseun Faleye, NSITF Managing Director, praised the Head of Service for her emphasis on welfare and reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to removing barriers to the ECS’s deployment. NSITF stays committed to its mission of enhancing social protection for public sector employees, even as other committees deal with housing and healthcare.
Faleye emphasized the need of stakeholder involvement and awareness efforts in ensuring that federal employees are aware of their rights under the program and know how to take advantage of its benefits. To ensure a smooth deployment, the Fund keeps taking proactive measures to remove obstacles from the system.
