The resignation, which was announced on Facebook, was a direct reaction to the governor’s previous order that cabinet members who did not want to join the APC should leave. Governor Eno had earlier given his cabinet advance notice to decide their allegiance by announcing his intention to abandon the PDP.
When his defection became apparent, he made it plain that any appointee who was not prepared to support him politically should get ready to step down. “You cannot play anti-party while serving in my government. Weeks before to his official statement, the governor had stated at a meeting that “it is what it is.” At a gathering at Government House on Friday, Governor Eno announced his defection to the APC, citing political strategy and alignment with national leadership as justifications. Ememobong announced his resignation shortly after the announcement, claiming that his choice was motivated by personal belief and in accordance with the governor’s order.
While expressing respect for the governor’s decision, Ememobong highlighted his own values and long-standing ideological opposition to the APC in his letter of resignation.
