Former Arsenal defender, William Gallas has backed the Gunners’ decision not to pursue Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen in the current transfer window.
Arsenal are reportedly in the market for a new striker to boost their attacking options ahead of next season. However, despite Osimhen’s impressive form, Arsenal have decided not to make a move, a choice Gallas says is wise.
“Victor Osimhen is a top-class striker, but I could see him clashing with Mikel Arteta,” Gallas told Prime Casino. “His personality may not align with the kind of discipline and unity Arteta demands from his squad.”
Osimhen enjoyed a stellar season on loan at Galatasaray, finishing as the top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig with 26 goals and five assists.
The 26-year-old’s performances have put him on the radar of top European clubs, but his future remains uncertain after his contract with the Turkish champions expired.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray’s Deputy Chairman, İbrahim Hatipoğlu, has denied rumours linking the club with a move for Manchester City midfielder İlkay Gündoğan.
Speaking to Turkish outlet Habersarikirmizi, Hatipoğlu made it clear that the club’s focus is on securing Osimhen permanently.
“We haven’t had any connection with Manchester City regarding transfers,” Hatipoğlu said. “We haven’t discussed money with İlkay Gündoğan and his manager. There is no such thing on our agenda at the moment.
“We are all thinking about the Osimhen transfer first. We will meet later if our coach wants.”
