Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has denounced the murder of two indigenous individuals from Kano State by suspected youths in the Agan community of Makurdi.
According to a security source, the victims were ambushed and killed around 11 pm on Monday while transporting goods to the eastern region of the country after they had parked their truck to purchase a recharge card.
It was reported that they had stopped in the Agan community to acquire a recharge card when they were attacked and killed by a group of youths.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the governor characterised the incident as “barbaric and unacceptable,” and has called for the immediate apprehension and prosecution of those responsible.
“Five criminals have been swiftly apprehended in Makurdi by the police following the Governor’s directive,” the statement confirmed.
Alia expressed sadness over the incident, emphasising that Benue people are known for peace and hospitality.
“We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our image. These criminals MUST be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The governor extended his condolences to his Kano State counterpart, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and assured the people of Kano that justice would be served.
