Former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri, has boasted that he and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce were instrumental to the emergence of Peter Obi as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.
Omokri stated that he also arranged Obi’s meeting with the then-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson.
Speaking during a recent edition of The Honest Bunch podcast, Omokri said Peter Obi can not deny what he said if he doesn’t want to be disgraced.
Speaking further, Naija News reports that Omokri also stated that he doesn’t particularly like Obi, but he supported him out of loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who endorsed him.
“I and Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce were responsible for Waziri Atiku Abubakar picking Peter Obi as his running mate in 2019. We package Peter Obi, saying he was the next best thing after sliced bread.
“When Peter Obi met with Boris Johnson; it wasn’t Peter Obi that meet with Boris. I took him to Boris Johnson, myself and Senator Ben Bruce, he cannot deny it because I’m a meticulous record keeper. If he wants to deny it he will be disgraced because I will get a member of the British House of Lords, Lord Daniel to confirm because that’s the man that arranged it, he’s my friend. I said we want to see Boris Johnson and we are going to bring this man along and that is how it happened.
“We were packaging this man. I don’t particularly like Peter Obi, the reason I was doing this is because I was instructed by former President Jonathan that this is the man he wants and I am a loyal person,” Omokri said during the interview.
