Iran’s armed forces have accused Israel of launching multiple waves of strikes on its territory even after former U.S. President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire between the two countries.
Speaking on state television on Tuesday, a spokesman for Iran’s Armed Forces Command claimed that “the Zionist regime launched three waves of attacks on sites in Iranian territory until 9:00am (0530 GMT) today.”
No further details of the alleged strikes were provided by the Iranian military.
Naija News reports that the allegations come just hours after Trump took to his Truth Social platform to announce what he described as a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” between the long-standing rivals, Israel and Iran.
“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted late Monday.
He added that the ceasefire would take effect at approximately 4:00 a.m. GMT on Tuesday, bringing what he called a “12-day war” to an end.
The former U.S. President, who has remained a vocal figure in global diplomacy even after leaving office, did not provide specifics on the terms or signatories to the agreement.
Reacting swiftly to Trump’s claim, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi refuted any formal agreement between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
Posting on his verified 𝕏 handle (formerly Twitter), Araghchi stated, “There is no agreement yet on a ceasefire. However, if the Zionist regime halts its illegal aggression, Tehran will reciprocate in kind.”
