Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has urged his club teammates to push for European qualification in the upcoming Premier League season, following what he described as an “inspiring” 2023-2024 campaign.
The West London club recorded their best-ever finish in the Premier League last season, ending in eighth position under the guidance of manager Marco Silva. However, the spot was insufficient to earn them a place in European competitions.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Iwobi said the team must use last season’s performance as a platform to achieve more.
“What we achieved last season should be a stepping stone, a motivation, for us to achieve Europe now,” the Nigerian international said.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has weighed in on the future of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who is expected to leave Napoli this summer.
Osimhen, 26, had a sensational loan spell at Galatasaray last season, clinching the Turkish Super Lig and League Cup titles, while also finishing as the top scorer.
Despite multiple offers from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, Osimhen has reportedly opted to remain in Europe to further his career.
Okocha, speaking to Sport 247, stressed that the final decision on Osimhen’s next move should rest solely with the player.
“The decision should be his. Whether it goes well or not, he must own it,” Okocha said.
“I don’t believe in deciding someone’s future. He should choose what’s best for him and his family.”
