Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has spoken candidly about her leaked sex tape from 2021, describing it as one of the toughest challenges she has ever faced.
In a recent interview, she admitted the ordeal left lasting scars on her career, personal relationships, and mental well-being.
As reported by Punch on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Tiwa explained that her then-boyfriend initially claimed the video surfaced by accident, saying he accidentally hit “send” while trying to save it. Later, she discovered it was intentionally shared as part of a heartless bet made with his friends.
The scandal triggered a storm of online criticism. Many accused her of leaking the tape herself for publicity, while others attacked her motherhood.
Tiwa confessed the most painful part was hearing people say her son would grow up ashamed of her, a thought that cut deeper than the leak itself.
During that period, she tried to shield herself by joking about the issue and channeling her emotions into songwriting. Even so, the pain lingered, and to this day, she struggles with performing songs tied to that difficult time.
Although she sought justice, the process was too emotionally draining, and she eventually decided to move on. Her family, particularly her mother, became her strongest support system.
Tiwa further disclosed that she has chosen celibacy for three years and now relies on therapy as part of her journey toward healing and reshaping her views on intimacy and relationships.
Recalling the betrayal, she said: “He told me it was a mistake—that he pressed send while trying to save it. Later, I discovered it was all part of a bet with his friends.”
