Lt-Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo’s Speech after the Execution of Dimka and other February 1976 Coup Plotters

Following the failed coup attempt of February 13, 1976—which claimed the life of Nigeria’s Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed the nation was left in shock and mourning.

In the aftermath, the military government moved swiftly to restore order, arrest the conspirators, and bring them to justice. After a thorough trial, Lt. Col. Buka Suka Dimka and several others involved in the coup were executed.
