Premier League champions Liverpool have agreed a £40 million deal to sign Bournemouth’s highly-rated left-back Milos Kerkez, as the Reds continue their aggressive summer rebuild.
The 21-year-old Hungary international is expected to become the latest addition to Arne Slot’s squad after two standout seasons with the Cherries, during which he played every league game last season and helped the club finish ninth, their best-ever Premier League campaign.
Kerkez, who contributed two goals and six assists in the 2023-2024 season, will reunite with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who played a key role in bringing him to Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar in 2023.
His impending arrival at Anfield casts uncertainty over the futures of current Liverpool left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
While the club is keen to retain Robertson, reports are linking the 31-year-old Scot with a potential move to Atletico Madrid.
Kerkez’s move comes as Liverpool close in on a club-record £116 million transfer for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. They have already secured Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen for £29.5 million, signalling a major squad overhaul.
Kerkez who was born in Serbia, started his senior career at Hungarian side Győr before a move to AC Milan, where he failed to make a first-team appearance.
A breakthrough came at Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, where he helped them finish fourth in the 2022-2023 Eredivisie and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Kerkez has 23 caps for Hungary and will now join international teammate Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Wolves have completed their first signing of the summer with the capture of 21-year-old forward Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo in a £19 million deal.
The Spanish striker has signed a five-year contract with the Molineux club after impressing in La Liga last season, scoring four goals in 20 appearances and helping Celta Vigo to a seventh-place finish.
Speaking to the club’s website, Lopez expressed his excitement about the move: “It’s an amazing opportunity for my career to play in the Premier League and I’m very happy. The team did very well under Vitor [Pereira] and I’m excited to be part of it.”
Lopez has strong ties to England, having been briefly schooled in Suffolk and trained with Norwich City’s academy in 2018 before joining Celta’s youth ranks.
His signing comes as Wolves reshape their squad following the big-money exits of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United for £62.5 million and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City for £31 million.
