Nigeria’s Super Falcons will reignite their long-standing rivalry with the Black Princesses of Ghana in a high-profile friendly encounter ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The match will take place in Morocco as part of final preparations for the continental tournament.
Head coach Justine Madugu is also lining up a second warm-up match against Portugal, scheduled for Monday, June 23.
The Super Falcons are expected to head to Portugal later this week to fine-tune their tactics and squad cohesion before the tournament proper.
Nigeria have been drawn into Group B of the WAFCON, alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, while Ghana find themselves in a more challenging Group C featuring defending champions South Africa (Banyana Banyana), Mali, and Tanzania.
Ghana’s final preparations are already underway in Benslimane, Morocco, where they have set up camp.
In domestic football development, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rangers have confirmed that their Under-16 team will participate in the 2025 edition of the FC Bayern Youth Cup.
The youth tournament is set to take place at the NITEL Playing Pitch in Oshodi, Lagos, from Friday, June 20 to Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Rangers’ Under-16 head coach, Felix Nwosu, made the announcement official on Wednesday, stating, “It’s official that Rangers U-16 will be participating in Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria 2025 edition held at the Nitel Playing Pitch Oshodi Lagos!!!”
Meanwhile, home-based Super Eagles defender Imo Obot has officially departed NPFL giants Enyimba after the expiration of his contract.
Obot, who joined Enyimba from NNL side Dakkada FC in 2020, carved a name for himself as one of the league’s standout defenders, especially known for his prowess from set-pieces.
During his time at the Aba-based club, Obot won the NPFL title and currently holds the record for the most free-kick goals scored by a defender in the league over the last three seasons.
His performances have sparked interest from Rivers United, coached by former Enyimba manager Finidi George, potentially setting up a reunion between player and coach.
