But despite not holding any position in government before the election—not a minister or a senator—Tinubu found a way to gather over 8 million votes and won the presidency. He explained that while the opposition relied on social media and lawyers with less courtroom experience, Tinubu brought strong legal experts and won his case at the Supreme Court. Showunmi also praised Tinubu’s bold decisions after becoming president, such as removing fuel subsidies and floating the naira, even though the country is facing economic hardship. He expressed disappointment with the opposition, saying they are acting like politics is a game, ignoring Tinubu’s deep experience and smart moves. He pointed out that Tinubu has been strategic since 1999 when he was governor of Lagos. While many former governors ran for Senate after their terms, Tinubu didn’t. Instead, he waited patiently and worked behind the scenes until he became president in 2023.
