1. ‘Abuja Remains Safe’ – FG Reacts After U.S Issued Travel Warning
The federal government of Nigeria has declared that the Federal Capital City, Abuja, remains totally safe and residents have nothing to fear.
This position was made known in a statement on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The declaration follows an earlier warning from the United States government through its mission in Nigeria, in which it raised a security alert for its citizens, warning against non-official visits to military and government facilities in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Naija News reports that the advisory, released on Sunday, follows rising global and domestic security concerns, prompting the embassy to take precautionary measures for its staff and American nationals in Nigeria.
In the new directive, the US government said all employees of the US Embassy in Abuja, along with their families, are prohibited from visiting Nigerian military sites or government buildings unless it is for official purposes.
In reaction, the government of Nigeria stated that while it recognizes the right of foreign missions to issue safety and travel advisories to its citizens, it is important to clarify that Abuja remains totally safe.
Idris added that the government and security forces are also proactive in the management of the nation’s security architecture; hence, all residents of Abuja have nothing to fear.
He added that residents should go about their lawful activities without entertaining any fear.
2. Baba-Ahmed Knocks Atiku, El-Rufai-Led Coalition Over 2027 Plans
A former spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has criticised the ongoing coalition efforts among opposition parties aimed at unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.
Naija News reports that the coalition, reportedly spearheaded by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, is pushing to register a new political platform, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on The Morning Show, a programme aired by Arise Television, Baba-Ahmed cautioned that the coalition is being undermined by the same old political players, who, according to him, are more focused on returning to power than delivering real change.
Baba-Ahmed, who recently served as special adviser on political matters to Vice-President Kashim Shettima, lamented that the drive to build a viable opposition is already being compromised by personal ambition and lack of generational shift.
He accused leaders of the coalition of merely seeking to replace the Tinubu government without any clear ideological difference or fresh approach.
3. Akeredolu’s Widow Slams Gov Aiyedatiwa Over Demolition Of Owo Massacre Memorial
The widow of the late Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has condemned the demolition of the cenotaph erected in honour of the victims of the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church massacre in Owo.
The monument, built by the late governor in memory of over 40 worshippers who were gruesomely murdered during a church service on June 5, 2022, was pulled down recently on the directive of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, drawing widespread outrage.
In a post on 𝕏 (formerly known as Twitter), she wrote, “What kind of leadership defiles the memory of innocent souls in such a callous manner? Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s demolition of the Owo church massacre monument is not only an act of profound insensitivity, it is a desecration of sacred ground.”
4. NNPC Increases Petrol Price To ₦945/Litre In Abuja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has raised the pump price of petrol to ₦915 per litre in Lagos and ₦945 in Abuja, sparking fresh concerns among consumers and industry stakeholders.
The new pricing, which took effect Monday, represents a ₦45 hike from the previous ₦870 per litre in Lagos, and a ₦35 increase from ₦910 in Abuja, respectively.
According to The Cable, a visit to several NNPC retail outlets revealed immediate compliance with the revised price structure. At the Fin Niger NNPC outlet on Badagry Expressway, petrol was sold at ₦915 per litre, a rate also mirrored at the company’s Igando station.
Private filling stations followed suit. MRS, a known partner of the Dangote refinery, increased its price to N925 per litre, up from ₦875. Similarly, TotalEnergies raised its pump price to ₦910, compared to the ₦879 it charged previously.
At Oluwafemi Arowolo Petroleum in Iba, fuel was sold at ₦920 per litre.
The sudden hike follows a recent move by the Dangote refinery, which increased its ex-depot petrol price to ₦880 per litre, just days before launching nationwide logistics operations for petrol and diesel distribution on June 15.
5. I Don’t Like Peter Obi But We Packaged Him To Be Atiku’s Running Mate In 2019 – Omokri
Former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri, has boasted that he and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce were instrumental to the emergence of Peter Obi as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.
Omokri stated that he also arranged Obi’s meeting with the then-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson.
Speaking during a recent edition of The Honest Bunch podcast, Omokri said Peter Obi can not deny what he said if he doesn’t want to be disgraced.
Speaking further, Naija News reports that Omokri also stated that he doesn’t particularly like Obi, but he supported him out of loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who endorsed him.
6. Tensions Escalate As Iran Fires Missiles At US Bases In Qatar, Iraq
Tensions in the Middle East flared dramatically on Monday evening after Iran launched ballistic missiles at US military installations in Qatar and Iraq, Iranian state media reported.
Naija News reports that the offensive, described as a “powerful” retaliatory strike, follows recent American attacks on key nuclear sites in Iran.
According to the official IRNA news agency, the operation was codenamed “Blessing of Victory.”
“The operation of Iranian missiles against American bases located in Qatar and in Iraq has begun,” IRNA said.
The report described the attack as a direct response to what Tehran claims were provocative strikes on its nuclear infrastructure by Washington.
AFP journalists stationed in Doha, the Qatari capital, reported hearing multiple explosions, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict. Doha hosts the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military installation in the Middle East, and a strategic hub for American operations in the region.
7. Emmanuella Brought This Upon Herself – Kwam 1 Reacts To Alleged Marriage Crisis
Famous Nigerian Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, professionally known as Kwam 1, has blamed his wife, Aderopo Emmanuella, for the misconceptions surrounding their marriage.
Reports emerged two weeks ago after the Sallah celebration that Kwam 1 had reconciled with his estranged wife, Fathia Titi Marshall.
The report claimed that Fathia’s return forced Emmanuella to move out of Kwam 1’s house.
However, reacting to the viral reports in an exclusive interview with popular journalist Stella Dimoko-Korkus, the 68-year-old singer denied reconciliation with Fathia, saying she is gone from his life forever.

Former Big Brother Naija Housemate, Uriel Oputa, has berated Nigerian men over the trend of age-shaming towards women.
Naija News reports that the reality TV star, in a post via her Instagram page, expressed displeasure at Nigerian men who shame women for growing older, questioning why a natural part of life should be used as an insult rather than a blessing.
According to the BBNaija star, age-shaming is an insult to God, adding that she would rather grow older than die young.
9. Siasia Denies Mikel Obi Paid for Nigeria’s Flight To 2016 Olympics
Former coach of Nigeria’s men’s football team at the 2016 Olympics, Samson Siasia, has refuted claims by ex-international, John Mikel Obi, that he personally paid for the team’s flight tickets to Brazil.
Mikel, who captained the Dream Team VI to the Rio Olympics, recently alleged on a podcast hosted by former England striker Peter Crouch that Nigerian football officials diverted funds meant for the team’s travel, forcing him to cover the costs. He further claimed the Nigerian Football Federation never reimbursed him.
However, in an interview with journalist, Callistus Ebare, Siasia challenged Mikel’s version of events, stating that while the midfielder may have contributed in other areas, he did not cover the cost of the team’s flight from the United States to Brazil.
The former Super Eagles coach went further to demand evidence. “If Mikel has the receipt to that effect, let him show Nigerians that he was the one who paid,” he said.
10. Gallas Backs Arsenal’s Decision To Snub Osimhen As Galatasaray Prioritises Permanent Move
Former Arsenal defender, William Gallas has backed the Gunners’ decision not to pursue Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen in the current transfer window.
Arsenal are reportedly in the market for a new striker to boost their attacking options ahead of next season. However, despite Osimhen’s impressive form, Arsenal have decided not to make a move, a choice Gallas says is wise.
“Victor Osimhen is a top-class striker, but I could see him clashing with Mikel Arteta,” Gallas told Prime Casino. “His personality may not align with the kind of discipline and unity Arteta demands from his squad.”
Osimhen enjoyed a stellar season on loan at Galatasaray, finishing as the top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig with 26 goals and five assists.
